The City follows the General Election schedule, which are held every two years in the even number years.
Local elections are held for City Council and Mayor positions. The mayor is elected for a two (2) year term and four (4) councilmembers are elected in sets of two in alternating election years.
Local, State and County Elections are held at the City of St, Mary's Point City Hall located at 16491 St. Mary's Drive. Occasionally School District elections are held at other locations (typically Afton-Lakeland school).
Absentee voting is handled by Washington County.

MUST have a photo ID and current utility bill indicating your name and city address. OR you can have a resident vouch for you.

2026 Candidate Filing period is;
July 14, 2026 thru July 28, 2026 (city office will be open until 5 pm on 7/28/26).
Three city council seats are open: One (1) seat open for mayor and two (2) seats are open for city councilmembers.
Per State Statute the filing notice shall be posted by July 2, 2026 on the City's Posting Board and also published by June 26, 2026 in the official publication for the city, which is the Stillwater Gazette.
Filing period for municipal office is July 30 - August 13, 2024
The last date to withdraw for the 2024 municipal offices is August 15, 2024
There are two council seats up for election (4 year terms) and one council - Mayor seat (2 year).
